The College of Agricultural Science and Engineering of Hohai University was formerly the Department of Water Conservancy and Soil Improvement which was established in 1952. It was renamed as the Department of Agricultural and Water Conservancy in 1958 and renamed as the Department of Agricultural and Water Conservancy Engineering in 1965. In 1995, the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering was established as an integration of the Department of Agricultural and Water Conservancy Engineering, the Department of Hydropower Engineering, and the Research Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering. In 1997, it was renamed as the Department of Agricultural and Water Conservancy Engineering (under the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering). In 2003, the Department was separated from the College, established the Modern Agricultural Engineering Department. The College of Agricultural Engineering was established in 2007, and established the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower together with the Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering College.
