At present, while strictly implementing regional, hierarchical, and differentiated epidemic prevention and control measures, my country has made every effort to organize spring ploughing production to ensure that the farming time is not missed. On the evening of March 2, 2020, a series of academic lectures on Spring Plowing and Agricultural Water Lectures hosted by the Association of Science and Technology of the Academy of Agricultural Industry and Technology was held as scheduled in the QQ group classroom via online live broadcast. Professor Guo Xiangping of our school was invited to explain the knowledge of spring plowing for teachers and students. The lecture was hosted by Wang Kairui from the Association of Science and Technology of the Academy of Agricultural Engineering.
Professor Guo Xiangping introduced the concept of spring plowing from the narrow and broad perspectives, and listed in detail the agricultural activities related to spring plowing and sowing. And it discusses the relationship between spring ploughing and Chinese agriculture from two aspects: five grains and six grains and multi-crop system. Regarding two years and three crops, Professor Guo explained his sowing method, and the role of restoring soil fertility, reducing continuous cropping obstacles, labor and resource consumption, etc. In addition to the explanation, Professor Guo recited Lu You's poems and introduced spring ploughing and traditional culture from the aspects of Chinese painting, poetry and beauty, and family instructions.
Professor Guo pointed out that agricultural scientific research, like other disciplines, has made significant contributions to the development of human society. The characteristics of agricultural disciplines allow us to have more time and opportunities to get close to and understand nature. Regarding the new irrigation technology, Professor Guo started a detailed introduction with the word advanced as the starting point. In the Q&A session, Professor Guo introduced how agricultural water conservancy works for spring plowing, and explained the advantages of spring plowing compared to planting in other seasons. During the online communication, the students enthusiastically asked questions, and Professor Guo answered them patiently. After the lecture, the students said that the lecture was very effective and benefited a lot.
Professor Guo Xiangping is a doctoral supervisor of our college and the director of the Agricultural Water Saving Institute. He is mainly engaged in research in the fields of water-saving irrigation and drainage theory and technology, saline-alkali soil improvement, water and soil environmental protection and utilization, and land remediation.
