On the morning of December 6, the second ‘Agricultural Situation and Water’ Academic Forum for Postgraduate Students--Academic Salon for International Students in Conference Room 214 of the Management Building was held. This academic salon aims to create a strong academic atmosphere for the college and promote academic exchanges between Chinese and foreign postgraduate students. The academic salon was hosted by Professor Xu Junzeng, the deputy dean of our college. This academic salon was attended by 4 PhD students to make academic reports.

Yousef Alhaj Hamoud was the first to give a report. The subject of his report was ‘Impact of alternative wetting and soil drying and soil clay content on the morphological and physiological traits of rice roots and their relations hips to yield and nutrient use-efficiency’. From the research background, research status and existing problems as an introduction, Yousef explained in detail his research principles and methods, and through detailed analysis and discussion of the data, he introduced and explained the alternating dry and wet treatment and soil clay particles. The effect of content on rice root morphology and physiological characteristics and its relationship with yield and nutrient utilization efficiency. After the report was completed, its wonderful report content caused a lively discussion between Dean Xu and the participating students.

The subject reported by the second reporter, Ashenafi Yimam Kassaye, was ‘A shift towards climate smart agriculture is a matter of policy or necessity?’. Ashenafi introduced us to relevant concepts and research background from the four aspects of ‘Where, What, Why and How’. Starting from a global perspective, he introduced the related content of climate-smart agriculture in a simple and profound way. Next is Ghulam Rasool, an international student from Pakistan.

The topic he reported was ‘Experimental study of fertigation levels under buried straw layer on crop productivity and quality’. Ghulam introduced the background, purpose, and current status of the problem, and detailed experimental treatment methods, and compared the results of various experimental treatments to explain in detail the effects of different fertilization levels under straw mulch on crop yield and quality. After the Ghulam report, Wu Tiaao also raised his own questions and discussed academically with Ghulam, which made the discussion between Chinese and foreign graduate students more intense.

The last reporter, Rahim Shah Fahad, reported on the subject of ‘Partitioning contributions of genotype and climate change on the trends in rice (Oryza sativa L.) yields by using AquaCrop’. Rahim first introduced the crop growth model-AquaCrop to us in detail from the concept, principle, algorithm and different features from other models. Through detailed introduction of data sources, processing methods, and data analysis, he introduced the contribution of AquaCrop to the distribution of genotypes and climate change of rice yield trends.

In the last discussion and questioning session, everyone enthusiastically expressed their views and questions, pushing the academic discussion atmosphere of the salon to a climax.

At the end of the academic salon, the deputy dean Xu Junzeng made a summary. The International Student Academic Salon was a complete success, with a strong atmosphere for academic discussion, which not only promoted academic exchanges between international students and classmates, but also promoted academic exchanges and discussions between Chinese and foreign postgraduate students.
