International Cooperation

Kang Shaozhong (1962-), male, director of the academic committee, academician, director of the China Agricultural Water Research Center, from Taoyuan, Hunan.  Agricultural water and soil engineering expert. In 1982, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in farmland water conservancy engineering from the former Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, with a bachelor's degree in engineering; in 1985 and 1990, he graduated with a master's degree and a doctoral degree in agricultural water and soil engineering from the former Northwest Agricultural University, with a master's degree in agronomy and a doctorate degree in engineering, respectively.From August to November 1998, he worked at the Israel Agricultural Research Organization (ARO) Institute of Soil and Water and Environmental Sciences. From October 1999 to May 2000, he worked at the Australian CSIRO Water and Soil Research Institute and the Victorian Institute of Continuous Irrigation Agriculture. In July-September 1996, January-March 2002 and January-March 2003, he collaborated in the Department of Biology, Hong Kong Baptist University. He started working at Northwest Agricultural University in July 1985, was promoted to professor in September 1993, and was approved as a doctoral tutor in 1995. He was transferred to China Agricultural University in July 2002. He is currently the director of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Department of Agriculture, the deputy director of the Academic Committee of China Agricultural University, the director of the editorial committee of the Journal of China Agricultural University, the professor and doctoral supervisor of the College of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering, the director of the China Agricultural Water Research Center, and the Ministry of Agriculture  Director of Wuwei Scientific Observation and Experimental Station of Crop Separation Water.  He used to be Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Northwest Agricultural University, Dean of the School of Water Conservancy and Construction Engineering (Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research), Northwest A&F University, Director of the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering in Arid Areas of the Ministry of Education, and Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering/Military Region Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture  Director of the Key Laboratory of Water Saving and Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Agriculture in Loess Plateau. He was selected as one of the first batch of Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994, was awarded the National Science Fund for Outstanding Youth in 1997, was named a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education in 2001, and was selected as an innovation team of the Ministry of Education in 2006.  Lancaster University in the United Kingdom awarded an honorary doctorate of science. In 2011, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2013, he was selected as an outstanding innovation group by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.


 

Niu Xinqiang (1962-), male, born in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, as a professor-level senior engineer, a national engineering design master and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. From September 1979 to July 1983, he studied farmland water conservancy engineering at Hohai University. From September 1986 to July 1989, he studied for master's degree in structural engineering at Hohai University. He is currently the dean of the Yangtze River Survey, Planning and Design Institute, the director of the National Dam Safety Engineering Technology Research Center, and the vice chairman of China Dam Association. He has won 5 second prizes for national science and technology progress, 3 special prizes for provincial and ministerial science and technology progress, 6 first prizes, published 7 monographs such as Full-lined Ship Lock Design, and edited Shiplift Design Specification (SL660-2013), Specifications for Design of Hydraulic Concrete Structures (SL191-2008) and other 5 specifications. He has published more than 60 papers, and obtained 5 invention patents such as Large Hydrogenerator Unit Volute Combined Embedment Method. In 2015, he won the 2014 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award. He has responsible or mainly participated in the design of more than ten large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects such as the Three Gorges, the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Jinsha River Wudongde, Wujiang Goupitan, Qingjiang Shuibuya, Tibet Burang, etc.and is currently the main technical person in charge of the Three Gorges Project and the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.  The Three Gorges Double-line Five-level Ship Lock Design presided over won the National Excellent Engineering Design Gold Award.  He has responsible or participated in more than 30 major engineering technology and national scientific and technological research projects.


Mao Zhi (1932-), male, from Jiangpu, Jiangsu Province. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering with the title of professor and a doctoral supervisor.  From August 1950 to July 1953, he studied at Nanjing University and the Department of Water Conservancy of East China Water Conservancy College and graduated one year in advance. He has been committed to the research, teaching and production of farmland irrigation for a long time, and has made outstanding achievements in the theory and technology of irrigation engineering and water management. The Farmland Water-saving Irrigation Method that he presided over the research developed the theory of farmland water-saving irrigation and has profound academic value. He extended this method to 1.66 million hectares of farmland, increased grain production by 274,000 tons, saved 1.3 billion cubic meters of water, and created more than 400 million yuan in economic benefits. Since 1995, as the first prize winner, he has won 6 provincial and ministerial second-class awards: the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress nominated by the Ministry of Education and the second prize of Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress. Two second prizes for scientific and technological progress from the Ministry of Water Resources, and the Outstanding Contribution Award for International Agricultural Water-saving Irrigation Technology Innovation issued by the International Irrigation and Drainage Commission in 2000. In addition, he has won one second prize for popular science works in the country and a number of third prizes for scientific and technological progress at the provincial and ministerial level, and was selected by the American Institute of Biography as one of the 500 outstanding academic leaders in the world in the past 25 years.  In recent years, he has given lectures in 18 countries, presided over international conferences and made academic reports at international conferences, presided over international cooperation on water-saving research projects, received praise from foreign counterparts, and made important contributions to improving my country’s reputation.
