This major is one of the earliest backbone undergraduate majors in Hohai University with a long history and profound accumulation. Its predecessor was water conservancy and soil Improvement major, which was established in 1952 when East China Institute of Water Conservancy was established. It was renamed as Farmland Water Conservancy Project in 1958 and agricultural Water Conservancy Project in 1999. In 2012, it began to enroll students according to the major category of agricultural water conservancy project, which includes farmland water conservancy, facility agriculture and soil and water conservation.
In 2010, the major of Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering was selected as a national specialty. In 2012, it became a key specialty construction point in Jiangsu Province.
